Electoral Commission Unveils 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap

The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has released a comprehensive roadmap detailing key activities for the 2025/2026 General Elections, urging all stakeholders to take note of the timelines and actively participate.

The announcement was made via a press release signed by Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. The roadmap outlines a series of activities, beginning with the nomination of municipality and city division Special Interest Group (SIG) committees for older persons, persons with disabilities (PwDs), and youth, scheduled for July 24–25, 2025.

This will be followed by candidate campaigns, polling, and subsequent nominations for various committees throughout August 2025.

Key dates include:

  • District Conferences for Non-Unionised Workers Delegates: August 7, 2025
  • Nomination of District and City SIG Committee Candidates: August 11–12, 2025
  • Campaign Meetings for Older Persons, PwD, and Youth Candidates: August 12–17, 2025
  • Polling for District and City Older Persons Committees: August 15, 2025
  • Polling for District and City PwD Committees: August 18, 2025
  • Polling for District and City Youth Committees: August 19, 2025
  • Regional Conferences for Non-Unionised Workers Delegates to the National Level: August 25, 2025
  • Regional Conferences for Older Persons Delegates to the National Level: August 27, 2025
  • Nomination, Campaigns, and Polling for the National Youth Council Committee: August 27–29, 2025

The latter part of the year will focus on nominations for local government, parliamentary, and presidential elections:

  • Nomination of Candidates for Local Governments, including SIGs: September 3–12, 2025
  • Nomination of Parliamentary Candidates: September 16–17, 2025
  • Nomination of Presidential Candidates: September 23–24, 2025
  • Campaign Period for Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates: October 4, 2025 – January 12, 2026

The roadmap culminates in the polling period for Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Council elections across all administrative divisions, scheduled from January 9 to February 9, 2026.

Justice Byabakama emphasized that the roadmap provides a clear framework to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and timely conduct of the elections, urging all citizens and stakeholders to actively engage in the electoral process.
