Police in Kajansi are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected poisoning of a one-year-old baby in Wakiso District.
According to a statement shared by police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident occurred on the night of April 10, 2026, in Katwe Cell, Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise, a one-year-old girl.
Preliminary reports indicate that the child’s mother had, for the past two days, been leaving her baby in the care of a suspect her nephew while she attended night duty. It is alleged that during this period, the suspect became frustrated by the child’s frequent crying at night.
The suspect reportedly confessed to administering an overdose of medicine to the baby in an attempt to make her sleep. However, instead of calming the child, the medication is believed to have led to her death.
Police have since opened a case of murder by poisoning, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full details surrounding the incident.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.
