The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the display of the National Voters\u2019 Register will commence on April 17, 2025<\/strong>, at all polling stations across Uganda, marking a key milestone in the preparations for the 2025 General Elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing the exercise as \u201ca cornerstone for a credible election,\u201d the EC emphasized its importance in ensuring transparency, inclusiveness, and electoral integrity. More than 40,000 polling stations<\/strong> are expected to take part, giving citizens across the country an opportunity to verify their voter details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking ahead of the launch, EC Spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi<\/strong> said the display is a critical stage in the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the final process that enables the Commission to have a credible election. The display of the register at each polling station ensures transparency and accuracy,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Mucunguzi highlighted several preparatory activities completed ahead of the exercise, including the demarcation and reorganization of polling stations<\/strong> and the compilation of a special register for persons with disabilities (PWDs)<\/strong> to enhance inclusivity. He also pointed to the nationwide update of the National Voters\u2019 Register<\/strong>, concluded in February 2025, as a \u201clandmark exercise\u201d that both cleaned the register and captured new eligible voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe update concluded in February was very crucial because it determines who can vote. It was a landmark,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Following the register display, the EC will proceed with nominations for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in June<\/strong>, followed by nominations for Members of Parliament and Presidential candidates<\/strong> later in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While acknowledging occasional logistical hurdles such as equipment delays and misinformation, Mucunguzi reassured the public that resources required for this phase are already in place and the election roadmap remains on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile not all resources are always available on time, all that is needed for this phase has been availed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement, calling on political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), the media, and religious institutions to actively participate in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStakeholder engagement is the bedrock of this process. The EC is the midwife, but we need political parties, CSOs, religious leaders \u2014 everyone to play their part,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The EC has submitted its Budget Framework Paper<\/strong> and reaffirmed its constitutional commitment to organizing free and fair elections. Citizens are being urged to visit their respective polling stations starting April 17 to verify voter information, report anomalies, and help safeguard the integrity of the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is not just a technical activity. It\u2019s a civic duty,\u201d Mucunguzi emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
